‘Reason to think’ United States is ‘moving backward’ after Independence Day shooting

US President Joe Biden says there has been “reason to think” the United States is “moving backward” and freedom is being “reduced” after six people were killed following a shooting at a Fourth of July Independence Day Parade.

At least 24 people were admitted to hospital after a shooter began firing from a rooftop at the Highland Park parade.

“I know it can be exhausting and unsettling, but tonight I want you to know we are going to get through all of this,” Mr Biden said.

“For all that we have faced, that we are going to get through this and look how far we’ve come.”
